Overview: A holly grown for its a male pollinator selection (does not produce berries itself, but is needed nearby for female winterberries to fruit).

Mature size: Varies by cultivar, from compact 3–4 ft. forms to 6–8 ft..

Sun exposure: Full sun to partial shade — more berries form with more sun

Flowering season: Small white flowers in early summer, followed by berries that ripen in fall and persist after leaves drop

Hardiness: USDA Zones 3–9

Water needs: Average to consistent moisture; naturally a wetland-edge shrub, so tolerates wet soil

Special features: A deciduous native holly grown for its show of bright berries on bare winter branches; needs a male plant nearby for female plants to set fruit; tolerates wet soils better than most hollies

Wildlife value: Bees and other pollinators; berries (on hollies) attract birds
