Overview: A blueberry grown for its pink spring flowers and sweet blue fruit.

Mature size: Approximately 6–10 ft. tall and wide for rabbiteye types; more compact for southern highbush.

Sun exposure: Full sun for the best fruit production

Flowering season: Spring flowers, followed by fruit that ripens over summer

Hardiness: USDA Zones 6–9 for rabbiteye types; 6–7 for southern highbush

Water needs: Average; consistent moisture in acidic (pH 4.5–5.5), well-drained, organic-rich soil

Special features: A compact, more self-fruitful selection that tolerates slightly less acidic soil than most blueberries. Deciduous fruiting shrub; needs a different rabbiteye or highbush cultivar nearby for cross-pollination and best fruit set; requires acidic soil — amend with sulfur or peat if your soil runs neutral to alkaline; good fall foliage color

Wildlife value: Bees pollinate the spring flowers; birds eat the fruit

Botanical name: Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue'

Category: Edible Plants
